Teen Opportunities - Consider the Options
Teens have opportunities to develop and use their leadership skills as members of the Junior Fair Board, CARTEENS, the Food & Fashion Board, as a Camp Counselor, or a State 4-H Ambassador... Others will be eligible for state recognition and state trips as well as college scholarships offered at the state and county level.
Junior Fairboard
Junior Fairboard members solicit award sponsorships, organize all youth events related to the fair (both pre-fair and during the fair), assist in the execution of junior fair events and activities, and assist in the planning for facilities, judges., rules, etc. Their work is a cooperative effort with the Senior Fair Board, Senior Superintendents and Advisors.
Camp Counselor Program
Counselors are involved in all aspects of our 4-H camps. The selection process happens in the fall with applications due by October 31 for the following summer. Final selections are posted in December. Training meetings and planning sessions usually begin in February.
Food & Fashion Board
The Warren County Food & Fashion Board promotes 4-H Clothing & Nutrition projects and related events. Educational activities and community service activities round out the program for this group. Any Warren County 4-H member, age 13 or older may apply to be a member of the Food & Fashion Board. Members must enroll in a clothing or nutrition project and be willing to present educational activities to 4-H Clubs in Warren County. Applications have typically been accepted during the Warren County Fair.
CARTEENS
Help make our roads a safer place! This nationally recognized safe driving initiative, provides traffic safety education to first-time juvenile traffic offenders. Teen presenters play an important role by conveying the message about careless driving and its effects. They come from nearly all the high schools in the county. Several of them have been through the program as participants and felt strongly enough to volunteer.
Ohio 4-H Ambassadors
The Ohio 4-H Ambassador program was introduced in 1995 to recognize teens for achievement of standards of excellence. All Ohio 4-H teens who have achieved excellence in 4-H work, 4-H participation, 4-H citizenship, 4-H leadership, 4-H officer/committee work, and other-than-4-H leadership are invited to apply for this prestigious opportunity. Paperwork will be available in December.
State Trips and Recognition
Earn a scholarship to attend Citizenship Washington Focus, Leadership Camp, Sea Camp or Forestry Camp! Be recognized at the state level with a State Achievement Award. The OAR - Ohio Achievement Record - is available in December. This form must be submitted in early January to qualify for any of these trips and awards.
College Scholarships
Ohio 4-H Scholarships were established in 1976 in order to help young people continue their efforts toward becoming self-directing, productive, and contributing members of society. There are currently 20 scholarships being offered at the state level and 6 Warren County awards offered each year. Scholarship applications will be available in December to all 4-H members currently in the 12th grade.
