About Master Gardener Volunteer Program
- The Master Gardener Program was introduced in Portage County in 1991. Currently, there are over 100 certified Master Gardeners in the program and the new 2009 class trained an additional 14 volunteers. Our Master Gardeners are involved in numerous community education and outreach projects as well as providing answers to horticultural questions from county residents. In 2009, the Master Gardeners assisted over 500 Portage County residents with garden, landscape & pest-related concerns. The Horticultural Hotline, (330) 296.6432 X 21, is available from April 1st to October 31st each year or by emailing them at: portage_mg@cfaes.osu.edu. Each August, the Master Gardeners create a display booth at the Portage County Randolph Fair.
