Dear Older 4-H Members,

The Ohio State University Department of Animal Sciences and 4-H Youth Development are offering a Food Animal Products Academy (FAPA) for 4-H members who are interested in animal agriculture and the products they produce. This academy will be held June 29-July 1, 2010, on the Columbus campus of The Ohio State University. Participants will watch demonstrations, prepare meals, and tour businesses to learn about the food animal industry.

Who is eligible to apply? 4-H members ages 14 years and older at the time of FAPA who have been actively involved in projects taken for food production are encouraged to apply. Examples of food animal projects include beef, sheep, swine, goats, dairy, and poultry.

Is there a fee to attend? Yes. Youth must pay a $100.00 participation fee.  Meals, dormitory housing, and resource materials are paid for through an Ohio 4-H Foundation Grant.

What is expected of the participants? Participants will be expected to give talks to local commodity groups and their 4-H clubs about what they learned from attending this academy. Participants must identify one or two adults (parents, 4-H advisors, etc.) who will attend the last day of the academy, July 1, for the departing luncheon.
