The program embraces conservation but is not an advocacy group. The program is based upon the very successful Master Gardener Volunteer Program and volunteer natural resource programs in other states.

As the minimum number of participants was NOT reached, the 2011 Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalist Training Class for Hancock/Allen Counties has been cancelled. Visit the state website http://ocvn.osu.edu to see other class offerings around the state.

Who can become an Ohio Volunteer Naturalist?
The Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalist Program seeks to train individuals to develop a corp of well-educated volunteers for education, outreach, and service toward the beneficial management of natural resources within their communities. The certification program includes completing 40 hours of classroom & hands-on field instruction, achieving a minimum score of 70% on the final take-home exam, and a commitment to perform 40 hours of approved volunteer service within one year.
