Page About Master Gardener Volunteer Program
The Master Gardener Volunteer Program provides training in horticulture to interested Ohio residents who then volunteer their time assisting with educational programs and activities through their local Ohio State University Extension county office. Volunteers are not required to have gardening skills or knowledge; a passion for learning about gardening and sharing this knowledge with others is a must! Working with county Extension personnel, Master Gardener Volunteers provide such educational services to their communities as: answering gardening questions from the public; conducting plant clinics; gardening activities with children, senior citizens, or disabled persons; beautifying the community; developing community or demonstration gardens; and other horticultural activities.
Page About our Program
The Ohio State University Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Program has rapidly expanded in the last few years. In 1991, there were less than 10 Ohio counties with Master Gardener Volunteers. In 2008 over 71 counties are involved. In addition, there are a number of counties that have expressed interest in starting the program in the near future. There are many exciting opportunities for continuing education and camaraderie; this group of dedicated volunteers are an important component of the OSU Extension Organization. The Master Gardeners’ knowledge, experience, and enthusiasm have become essential to Extension education of consumer horticulture in the state of Ohio. Please feel free to contact our office with any questions about our programs and services to the community. We are available for presentations, programs, and information that you, your group, company or organization might like to know.
