Horse Stall Capital Improvement

The Fairfield County Horse Advisors have formed a Capital Improvement Committee to oversee fundraising.  They are currently raising funds to make improvements to our Fairgrounds for the possibility of making it a functional facility 12 months a year for Horse members.  Our immediate needs are for purchasing 21 new stalls for the Junior Fair Horse Barn.  The cost of this purchase is $1000.00 for each stall.  Any size donation will be beneficial to the youth of Fairfield County the city and fairgrounds.  We have many levels of donations.  If you donate a stall you will receive your name or company name on a plate mounted on the stall permanently.  All other donations will be posted in the Barns/Arena at the fairgrounds. The level of donations are as follows: GRAND CHAMPION DONOR $5000.00, Horse Stall Donor $1000.00, Gold Medal Donor $500.00, Silver Medal Donor $250.00, Bronze Medal Donor $100.00.  If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact Matt Levin at 740-215-9912 or Luann Todd 614-270-0342. Thank you for your consideration on behalf of the Fairfield County 4-H Horse members.

ATTENTION CLUBS!

The County Commissioners are the reason we are able to have a 4-H program!  Why not send them a thank you note telling them the support is appreciated?  Without them, we would not be able to have the program we do!

Calling all Fairfield County 4-H Alumni!

We are working to create a database for Fairfield County 4-H Alumni in order to connect them with happenings that occur in the Fairfield County 4-H Program.  If you or someone you know would like to be added to the database, contact Kathy Henwood (henwood.13@osu.edu) with the information of: first name, last name, maiden name, phone number, address, email address, former club(s), project areas (beef, clothing, environmental, etc.) and either "Yes" or "No" about sending information about the Fairfield County 4-H Youth Development Program.  This information can also be submitted online at: http://surveys.cfaes.ohio-state.edu/cfaes/index.php?sid=25724&lang=en.

Specie & Activity Expert List

We are in the process of creating an "Expert List" database.  Once this database is created, we will utilize it to direct individuals to people that can assist them with a particular project, event, or activity.  (Sheep, Swine, Cloverbuds, Community Service, Achievement Forms, etc.) Or just serve as a resource person!  If you or someone you know is interested in being on this list, please contact Hannah.  It will be extremely beneficial for the youth & adults that work with them throughout the year!

4-H Member Pins

The Extension Office has an assortment of 4-H member bronze pins (4th, 6th, and 8th year).  If you, your club, or parents in your club would like to purchase these for your club members, you could save money on shipping by purchasing them at the office instead of from the Source Book!  Cost is $1.25 each.  Contact the office to find out availability of these pins!

Club Biographies Available
Club Bios are now located on the website. This tool enables interested individuals in joining 4-H to search online for possible clubs and contact advisors directly to ask more specific information about club meetings, locations, and projects.  It's also a great way for club advisors and members to network with each other and help others out if there is a question regarding a project or event.  You can check these bios out at: http://fairfield.osu.edu/4-h-youth-development/club-biographies/club-biographies. Please contact Hannah with any changes or updates!

You'll hear why some gems are important, because they were owned by important people or because of their interesting background. You'll even find out how to distinguish between real gems and fakes. Yale Heart Study Community Service Program

The Yale Heart Study focuses on the care-seeking behavior of individuals who have suffered a heart attack, medically termed an acute myocardial infarction. As you may know, delays in care-seeking during a heart attack can contribute to increases morbidity and mortality. Our data will eventually be used to develop strategies to facilitate rapid and effective care-seeking. The Yale Heart Study [YHS] is funded by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute of the NIH and has been approved by the Yale Institutional Review Board [IRB].

We are reaching out to 4-H organizations to ask for your assistance in making it possible for older and less computer experienced individuals to participate in the YHS. The YHS uses a web-based survey that self-tailors to each study participant and takes between thirty and sixty minutes to complete. The survey is located at: https://heartstudy.yale.edu. Since the 4-H encourages citizenship and healthy living we would like to invite your young members to participate in our Community Service Program by assisting a family member, neighbor or friend who has had a heart attack to participate in the YHS. For assisting others to complete the YHS survey the Yale School of Nursing will provide them a certificate of completion for one hour of community service. We hope to gather a national sample of 2300 subjects by April 2012.  If you have any questions, you may contact Angelo A Alonzo at heart.study@yale.edu. Thank you in advance for your support!

Project Number Mix Up in Family Guide

As more families are getting their hands on the Family Guide, more are noticing this number mix-up. The project numbers for two projects are swapped on the inside front cover. The correct project codes are:

The codes that appear with the descriptions and in the project guide at the back are correct. Also, the codes on the 2012 Summary of Changes were correct, but they were in the wrong order.
