2008 4-H Camp at Camp Kern

4-H Camp is held at Camp Kern June 4 through 7.  4-H Camp offers a wide variety of fun activities such as archery, swimming, fishing, recreational sports, flag ceremonies, nature hikes, indoor and outdoor climbing walls, low challenge course, team games, under the stars camping and lots of cabin fun with well-trained camp counselors and many other boy and girl campers who are close in age.

Clinton County’s 4-H Camp begins on June 4 at 1:00 and ends at approximately 11:00 a.m. June 7.  Campers may choose horseback riding and optional group camp photo for an additional fee. 

Camperships are available for families who have financial need. Applications are due May 19.  The camp canteen will have t-shirts, pencils, cups, lanyards and snacks available for sale.

Facilities at the 420 acre Camp Kern include: a lake, pond, Little Miami River observation tower, air-conditioned cabins, covered archery range, swimming pool, 48' outdoor climbing wall, 25' indoor climbing wall, 4 campfire sites, 2 pioneer log cabins, tennis courts, basketball court, teatherball, soccer field, clean, updated kitchen and dining room, 10 nature trails, nature center, challenge courses and an indoor center with stage, craft room and activity rooms.

4-H Camp counselor applications are due in the Ohio State University Extension office on the first Friday in January.  Applicants must participate in a 4-H camp counselor selection evening in February.  Selected counselors will attend a series of training sessions to help prepare them for their duties as counselors for 4-H camp.

Camp Kern, located 15 miles from the west end of Wilmington on SR 350,  is a branch of the YMCA of Greater Dayton. Check out the Camp Kern facilities on their web site at http://www.campkern.org.
